Alsafwa cement Tire recycling initiative
In 2019, AlSafwa Cement company inaugurated the largest facility for tires recycling in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with a capacity of 4.8 million tires annually, the material will be utilized as an alternative source of energy to operate the cement plant.
The project is considered to be a keymilestone in the field of sustainability in the heavy industry and it’s the first of its kind in Saudi Arabia. The initiative comes inline with the Saudi strategy to reduce dependency on fossil fuel, also it supports Jeddah Municipality to resolve the problem of tire accumulation in the landfill causing fire risk, environmental pollution, fertile environment for the gathering of rodents and mosquitoes, which causes the spread of many diseases, including dengue fever.
From mid of 2019 to mid of 2021, nearly 4 million tires were recycled and utilized in AlSafwa Cement Plant.
Also, AlSafwa is proud to be the first cement company to obtain environmental approvals and accreditations for the (Pre-processing) and (Co-processing) of tires as an alternative fuel in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
